Rotary furnace for degreasing metal turnings

The direct gas fired rotary furnace was used to degrease metal turnings which were fed to it from a conveying system. The temperature control of the furnace was poor resulting in either poor degreasing when it was too cold or fires and consequent downtime when it was too hot.

A new control system and sensors based around a Mitsubishi PLC were installed together with new burner safety systems for the gas burner. This resulted in much better temperature control which allowed an increase in throughput without the fire risk.
